Preschool
Traverse City Christian Preschool is geared to successfully transition children between the learning that has taken place at home and learning that will happen at school. Each student is a child of God and is created with his or her own uniqueness and personality. All children are provided with a safe and nurturing atmosphere where they can grow and develop in the way God intended.
Our teaching style allows us to address the individual needs of our children. Opportunities are provided that enable the children to learn through active play, both structured and unstructured, and through teacher-guided exploration. The preschool program is designed to address childrens’ social, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, creative and physical development. The children are introduced to routines and social rules that help them be successful in life and at school.
We use The Creative Curriculum for Preschool. The basic philosophy is that children learn best by doing. Children explore the world around them by using all of their senses: touching, tasting, listening, smelling and seeing.
Traverse City Christian Preschool can be described as “Young minds learning about God’s love and our world.” Our program serves three, four, and five year olds who are toilet-trained. This program has the options to enroll children for full or half days, as well as the choice of which days they want to enroll for: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (4 year olds) and Tuesdays and Thursdays (3 year olds).
Young Fives
We also offer a young fives program that meets the educational and developmental needs of children who will turn five years old before December 1. This program provides an opportunity for children whose parents feel they will be more successful in future academic settings if they are given more time for social, academic and physical development prior to entering all day, every day kindergarten.
The central difference between this program and our preschool program is the amount of time students spend in learning centers. These learning centers include small-group activities in a variety of areas, including, but not limited to, math, science exploration, table-top games, letter recognition, sound and writing activities, and art projects. In addition to the center time, children are provided with time for free play, snack, large-group activities, story time, rest time, gross motor skills, and outdoor recess. The curriculum is aligned with Michigan State standards, with time dedicated to foundational skills.
